As members of faith communities we believe in raising the awareness, deepening the understanding and furthering the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people by our individual congregations and the larger community.
We will have achieved our vision when
1) LGBT people are guaranteed equal rights and protections under civil law, and
2) sacred texts and rituals celebrate the equal rights and humanity of LGBT people.
Adopted September 1992. Amended March 2000, September 2008.
INTERFAITH ADVOCATES meets five times per year, usually on the third Tuesday of September, November, January, March and May. The meetings are from 6:30 to 8 pm and are located at various faith communities. New persons are always welcome to attend.
Who We Are and What We Do
Interfaith Advocates for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People of Rochester, NY was formed in 1991 to recognize and respect the inherent worth and dignity of all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and to seek increased awareness, understanding and inclusion of LGBT people. Acknowledging that people of faith are called to work for social justice in our society, EPSPA's Pride In The Pulpit initiative in our region is now a Standing Committee of Interfaith Advocates. We encourage members of the faith community to sign our on-line petition and join the hundreds of people of faith in Rochester who support the Interfaith Statement in Support of Equal Marriage for All. Meeting five times per year to network about developments in our faith communities and in our region, we maintain a lending library of community educational materials (books and videos), and our website offers listings of welcoming congregations and upcoming events in greater Rochester.
